A dual baby monitor system provides two parent receiver units instead of the usual one. Some will have two monitors as well, that is, two transmitters with embedded cameras in them, together with the double parent monitoring units.
These are specially designed for parents with twins or who just want to monitor two children/babies at the same time. Another name would be a two room baby monitor (Note: This is not to be confused with two way baby monitors where the parent can both listen and talk to the baby.)
For parents of single babies who want the convenience of having their own personal receiver unit, so that both Mom and Dad can have their own, consider getting a dual baby monitor system that comes with two parent receivers but only one baby monitor camera.
This additional feature gives you the option of having one of the parent monitors in the kitchen and the other in the backyard, if you’re working back and forth between two places. A few popular brands have a large LCD screen that is stationary along with a smaller portable (handheld) parental monitor that Mom or Dad can carry around with them or clip onto clothing.
- Adjustable time intervals. The monitoring system can be setup in a way that it switches back and forth between the 2 baby monitor cameras at a predetermined time interval of say, 5 minutes. So say, you have one camera on the older toddler and another on a baby in a crib, you can configure the system in a way that you keep longer tabs on your attention-demanding baby than your toddler.
- Both sound and light to alert you. One may be engaged in household chores like vacuuming the floor and have the beep of the baby monitor or your baby’s cries faded out. No worries as the most baby monitors come equipped with blinking lights as well to alert you when your attention is needed.
While most dual baby monitor systems are equipped with video monitoring, one dual audio baby monitor deserving of mention is the Sony Babycall. Even though it operates by analog means (like an FM radio does), it does surprisingly well in handling interference with 27 channels included. Customer reviews have always been largely positive. A little gripe however, is the static sound that comes from an incoming call through a cordless phone in the home, that however, goes away once the call is answered.
